SSI-Monaco CEO moderating at the SATSHOW 2018 for EMEA Region
On Tuesday, March 13th at 3:15 PM, our CEO held the “Africa / Middle East : Connecting People, Businesses and Governments through Collaboration” session at the #SATSHOW 2018.
Dr. AYGUN, together with the Speakers Mr. Cenk Sen (General Manager, Turksat), Mr. Jassem Salman Nasser (Chief Strategy Officer, Thuraya) , and Dr. Selman Nas (Executive Vice President, TAI – Turkish Aerospace Industries Inc.) discussed around the following topic: “Consumers and businesses in the EMEA region have needs that go beyond just higher speeds and more content. Like their counterparts in other regions, they also want a diversified set of service options and seamless connectivity between the home, the vehicle and the office. This session will cover why customers want more service options and how providers are collaborating with businesses and government in new markets within the uniquely vast and diverse EMEA region to expand their footprint and meet demands.”

He was born in 1970 in İzmir. He completed his primary and secondary education in town of Torbali, İzmir. He completed his high school education in Izmir. He graduated in 1992 from Army War College Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department with honors. He served as combat officer in the Turkish Armed Forces in various ranks in different fields including Cable, Radio and Satellite Communications Systems and Encryption, Information Security, Electronic Combat. Between 1995-1996, he served as Information and Communication Technologies of Turkish troops at the NATO Peace Force in Bosnia Herzegovina. He commanded the Safe Communication, Network safety and resistance against threats infrastructures. He completed supplementary education at the Middle East Technical University (METU) Computer Engineering Department between 1998-1999 and received his bachelor degree in this field. He received master’s degree at Bilkent University Computer Engineering Departments in 2002. He made studies on Data Mining and Big Data. He had worked in various different ranks at the Turkish Armed Forces and NATO since 2002 as software specialist, team leader and project managers during the development of Command and Control software and as a part of projects for founding and extending safe network infrastructures. He took active roles in the number of Combat and Information System as well as Cyber Security Exercises which are organized nationally or jointly with the NATO. He participated in various trainings about Network Based Structures, Cyber Safety, and Information System Safety in the USA between 2004-2005. Since 2005, he worked at the “Multi-Sided Interoperability Program” that is an international institution developing technical solutions in an effort to maintain operability with the software programs of various different countries. He retired from the Turkish Armed Forces in 2014 with Senior Colonel after 22 years of successful service. During his services he received four year early promotion due to his success. In 2014, he was appointed as the Deputy General Manager of the Social Security Institution (SGK) responsible for operating and developing the nation wide information system infrastructure and coordination of institution’s Information System and Cyber Safety. During this period, he carried out various different projects concerning the software programs used in the SGK, development and improvement of information system infrastructure as well as transfer of SGK’s information system architecture to new technologies such as cloud computing. On April 7, 2016, he was appointed as the General Manager of TÜRSAT by the Executive Board of the corporation. Cenk ŞEN is married with two children and speaks English.
Dr. Selman Nas

Mr. Nas completed his B.Sc. degree at Istanbul Technical University, Aeronautical Engineering in 1987. He received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Aerospace Engineering from University of Michigan in 1990 and 1995, respectively. Dr. Nas started his professional academic career in 1995 at Istanbul Technical University, Faculty of Aeronautics and Astronautics Department. Dr. Nas served as Assistant Professor for more than 13 years and had many publications in Advanced Fluid Dynamics, Aerodynamics, Gas Kinetic Theory, Engineering Mechanics and Computer Programming. Following to his academic career, Dr. Nas worked for Turkish Airlines as Senior Vice President for Quality Assurance for 8 years. In 2016, Dr. Nas joined Turkish Aerospace Industries, TAI as Executive Vice President, Space Systems. During his career, he conducted many research on Fluid & Thermal Sciences, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Analysis of Nonlinear Dynamic Systems in Physiology and Medicine GPS/GSM Based Fleet Management Systems and Compliance, Quality and Safety Management Systems.
Mr. Jassem Salman Nasser

As Chief Strategy Officer, Jassem Nasser leads the strategy and business development division which includes Corporate Strategy, M&A and investigating new ventures outside the company’s core MSS business. Jassem also manages Thuraya’s Corporate Affairs including Regulatory, Spectrum Management & Development. Jassem has over 16 years of experience in the satellite industry including roles of providing strategic direction, as well as overseeing spectrum and frequency management. His engineering background has been applied to a business environment specializing in satellite communications and other radio communication systems. Jassem has been involved in setting up and managing a start-up satellite organization and seeing the company through its various stages of development by devising strategic direction and priorities, identifying and selection strategic options. Jassem graduated with first class honors from Khalifa University of the UAE with a bachelor’s degree in Communications Engineering.
Dr. ILHAMI AYGUN

SSI-Monaco Space Systems International Monaco
Dr. Aygun is the President and CEO of Space Systems International-Monaco S.A.M (SSI-Monaco). SSI-Monaco is an integrated international satellite telecommunications service provider . SSI-Monaco is also the satellite operator of the Principality of Monaco and as such developed the 52°E Monaco orbital position. The company successfully realised the MonacoSAT program and launched the TurkmenAlem52E/MonacoSAT satellite in partnership with Thales Alenia Space on 27 April 2015 from Cape Canaveral with Falcon 9 of SpaceX. Dr. ILHAMI AYGUN is a pioneer in the field of Satellite Communications as such he participated many European satellite programs, and has developed national satellite programs for Turkey, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Monaco. – In 1981, Dr. Aygun graduated as an Electrical/Electronics Engineer from the Middle East Technical University (METU) in Ankara, Turkey. He then got the Master degree from METU and attended postgraduate and doctorate studies in Southampton University-UK, AT&T Bell Labs/MIT-USA and Marmara University – Istanbul. – Dr. Aygun was the first Director of the Turkish Satellite Communications Center (todays TURKSAT, the national satellite operator of Turkey) during 1985-1990 in Ankara. He designed and directed the development of Turksat’s (1A, 1B, 1C) satellites in partnership with Aerospatiale-France (todays Thales Alenia Space) during 1991- 1997. Following the success of the Turksat satellites Dr Aygun became the Director General and CEO of Eurasiasat-Monaco (1997-2003). During his leadership the financing, design, manufacturing, launch and operation of Eurasiasat-1 satellite was successfully realised. – Upon the proposal by the President of the Republic of Turkey and acceptance by Prince Rainier III of Monaco, Dr. Aygun became the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Turkey in Monaco in January 2003. – Dr. Aygun was awarded the ‘Chevalier – Ordre de St.Charles’ title from Prince Albert II of Monaco on 17 November 2007 for his contributions to Monaco in space and satellite sector. – He was also given the Special Jury Economy Award of Monaco in 2015.
